What can I expect on my first appointment?

A.

On your first appointment, you will complete surveys and meet with an experienced clinician who will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of your current concerns.
By the end of your first session, you will have a clear treatment plan with number of sessions (5 to 10) required to tackle the presenting issue.

Who will know what I/we discuss in therapy?

A.

Only your treating clinician and yourself will know what is discussed during any session, unless written consent is given by yourself to discuss your details with others (eg., GP, parents, etc). Your confidentiality is of the utmost importance and is protected by law. Limitations of confidentiality is explained in detail prior to commencing your first session.

CBT is an evidence based treatment that has been shown to be the most effective method for treating depression, anxiety and a wide range of other problems. It involves establishing the link between behaviours, thoughts and feelings ,so that a person has a better understanding of what underlies the current difficulties they are experiencing and the impact this has on daily living.

What is Dialectic Behavioural Therapy (DBT)?

DBT is evidence based therapy that incorporates learning to recongise and regulate emotional distress and difficult feelings. mindfulness techniques are also utilised.
